  1. What was that video? Who was the artist I just saw on a World Music video?
If you were not able to identify the artist by the information provided at the beginning and end of the video, and the video is part of a scheduled block of videos, you can find information about the artist on our website in the following ways:

OPTION 1. From our program Schedule, click on the day and time that the music block appeared (remember to select the correct time zone from the upper-right hand corner of the schedule) and click on the words World Music Videos. You will be linked to a full playlist of all the artists in that block, in order of appearance. The playlist will provide the artist name, song title, CD title, label, originating country and purchase link (if available) for each video in the block.

OPTION 2. Visit Link TV's Search Engine or World Music video player and type in your favorite artist's name. The result will list of the playlist(s) in which the artist appears, if any.

Occasionally, an individual music video will be inserted in between scheduled programming, independent of a music block. For information on these artists, or more information on artists included in our music blocks, please contact our music team by filling out the Link TV contact form.
  2. When Can I See World Music on Link TV?
For the most part, our World Music videos are packaged into 30-minute blocks which are regularly scheduled throughout our programming week. Look for World Music Videos on our daily or weekly schedule. Click on the words and you will be linked to a playlist that will provide the artist name, song title, CD title, label, originating country and purchase link (if available) for each video in the block, in order of appearance.
  3. How do I purchase music?
You can purchase downloads and CDs of much of the music that we show on the channel by going to our music store.
  4. Are music videos available for sale?
Music videos are not for sale, although there are plans to create world music DVD compilations based on our video library in the future.
  5. What is Link TV's music video acquisition policy?
We are open to videos of world music, including global hip hop, and American roots music. We judge a video by whether the music is good, and if it is visually creative. A video does not have to be expensive for us show it. Please try to avoid MTV-type cliches - and address the formal elements of the videos as if you were a movie maker. As a matter of fact, we often recommend using a film student from a local university to help out--they have an understanding of these formal visual elements, such as camera angles and storytelling that most musicians do not.
  6. How do I submit my music video to Link TV?
Please submit your information using the Link TV contact form. The music department will contact you with an appropriate place to send the video. For screening purposes you can send a VHS tape or a DVD or Quicktime file on a CD, but should we decide to broadcast the video we will need either Beta SP or DV-Cam, plus a digital recording of the song used in the video. Please note that we reject 90% of what is sent to us, including big budget videos from the major labels. If we want the video, we will contact you, but if you do not hear from us, it is most likely because the video did not meet our standards. If you are sending us a tape or disk that you think you may need to have back in the future, please indicate this, as rejected material is frequently thrown out or recycled to keep our office from overflowing.
  7. I haven't seen any videos from ___. Why is that?
We are always looking for good videos from every country. In the case of Japan and India, it is difficult for us, since those are places that generally demand a fee for the use of their videos. (As a non-commercial station that makes it almost impossible to get these videos.) As far as other countries or artist are concerned, many times we find that the music in the videos is good, but the videos themselves are not of the same quality. HOWEVER if you know of a particular video that you think would work for us, we are interested! Send us the name of the video, the record label it comes from, and a contact name and e-mail for us to approach, and we'll definitely follow up!
  8. Why don't you translate the songs we see on the channel so that we can understand them?
Translation of videos from over 80 countries would require us to hire an army of translators. In addition to knowing their language and English, they would have to be poetically inclined, since song lyrics are a kind of poetry. In the past we have faced challenges with translation, as we do not have the editorial ability to verify the quality of a translator's work at this time. However, it's definitely something we are looking into, and hope to have happen in the future - please be patient with us!
  9. I am experiencing technical problems with the Link TV store or my Calabash account
